BusinessOracle Cuts Jobs Across US and India as Company Restructures Around AI and Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle has laid off employees across its offices in the United States, India, and several other countries, with affected workers in both regions reporting that termination notices arrived without prior warning, according to employee accounts and posts on professional networks reviewed by multiple outlets.

The scale of the cuts and Oracle’s precise rationale have not been confirmed through official company disclosure. Oracle has not issued a public statement specifying the number of roles eliminated, the divisions affected, or the timeline of the reductions.

How the Terminations Were Communicated

According to employee accounts circulated on LinkedIn, Reddit, and the professional forum Blind, termination notices were delivered via email from an account identified as “Oracle Leadership.” Workers reported receiving the emails as early as 6 AM Eastern Time on Tuesday, with no prior communication from human resources or direct managers.

The email, screenshots of which were shared by affected employees and reviewed by Business Insider, informed recipients that their roles had been eliminated “as part of a broader organizational change” and that the day the email was received was their last working day. The message stated that severance eligibility was contingent on signing separation documents to be delivered via DocuSign.

Employees were also asked to update their personal email addresses in order to receive follow-up information, including FAQs and details of their separation packages. Production system access, according to multiple employee accounts, was revoked within hours of the notices being sent.

The authenticity of the email text has not been independently verified by this publication through Oracle directly.

India Operations: Scale and Severance

Reports from employees and posts on Blind suggest that approximately 10% of Oracle’s India workforce was affected, with cuts spread across offices in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida, and Kolkata. These figures have not been confirmed by Oracle and could not be independently verified.

The divisions reported to be most affected in India include Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Financial Services Software. Neither claim has been confirmed through official regulatory filing or company disclosure.

On severance, employee accounts suggest the package follows an N+2 structure — where N represents years of service, paid out in months — though the specific terms may vary. One round of earlier cuts, reported separately, cited a structure of 15 days’ salary per completed year of service along with medical insurance coverage for up to a year. Oracle has not publicly confirmed the terms of any severance arrangement.

Employees were reported to have retained access to vested stock through Fidelity, while unvested restricted stock units were forfeited. Some employees cited April 3 as their formal last working day, followed by a one-month garden leave period with limited system access, according to posts on Reddit reviewed by this publication. These accounts are unverified and reflect individual employee experiences.

United States: Health and Cloud Units Hit

In the United States, layoffs were reported across several cities including Seattle, Redwood City, Pleasanton, and Santa Clara in California. According to reports citing state-level Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filings and employee accounts, more than 150 employees were affected in the Seattle area alone, though the precise figure and division breakdown could not be immediately confirmed.

Roles eliminated in the US appear to have included staff in Oracle Health — the division formerly known as Cerner — with care delivery and consulting positions among those cut, as well as employees in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Several affected employees who posted on LinkedIn identified themselves as software engineers.

Global Reach of the Cuts

Beyond India and the US, Oracle’s job reductions were reported to have extended to Canada, Mexico, and the Philippines, according to employee accounts. The aggregate global figure for roles eliminated has not been disclosed by Oracle.

The Business Context

The layoffs come during a period of substantial financial activity for Oracle. In February 2026, Oracle announced a $50 billion debt raise to support its data centre infrastructure expansion. The company is also a partner in Stargate, a $500 billion data centre initiative developed in conjunction with OpenAI, though reports have indicated Oracle faces ongoing challenges in securing the financing required for that programme.

Company executives, speaking to investors earlier this month, described Oracle as “very, very good” at cost-cutting, characterising the expenditure on infrastructure as consistent with a disciplined financial approach. Those remarks, attributed to executives in investor communications, have not been further elaborated upon in the context of the current job reductions.

Oracle’s stock has declined approximately 30% since the start of 2025, a drop attributed in part to broader investor concerns about AI-related cost pressures across the software sector, according to Business Insider. That figure reflects market movement and does not constitute an assessment of Oracle’s underlying financial position.

What Oracle Has Not Said

Oracle has not released a public statement confirming the number of employees affected, the specific rationale for targeting particular divisions, or whether further reductions are planned. The company has not publicly addressed employee accounts describing the manner in which terminations were communicated, the severance terms offered, or the reported installation of activity-tracking software on company-issued devices — a claim circulated on Blind that this publication has not been able to verify independently.

This story is developing. Details including total headcount reductions and Oracle’s official characterisation of the restructuring may be updated as further information becomes available.
